Andy Burnham rules out early election in exclusive BBC interview

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ruled out calling an early general election, asserting that voters do not want to return to the polls just two years after the last contest. Despite Westminster speculation that Labour could capitalise on polling boosts to secure a five-year mandate, Burnham told Laura Kuenssberg he intends to honour the manifesto people voted for. He assumed the role of PM last Monday, shortly after returning to parliament as the MP for Makerfield.
