Government must ‘stand up to the food industry’ to tackle obesity epidemic – MPs

The Health and Social Care Committee urges the Government to resist food industry lobbying to tackle an obesity epidemic costing the UK £74bn annually. MPs recommend banning junk food advertising on billboards and public transport, while preventing fast food chains like KFC from opening near schools. Furthermore, the committee suggests mandatory front-of-pack traffic light labelling and requiring supermarkets to prominently display fruit and vegetables near entrances and checkouts to increase sales and improve public health.
