Breast cancer checks missing most women under 50 who are at risk, says study

Researchers warn that current NHS checks miss up to 95% of women under 50 who are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer. Analysis suggests that the specific criteria provided to GPs for referrals fail to identify nearly all women in this age group who subsequently develop the disease within a decade. Consequently, a significant majority of younger women at risk are not being referred for the necessary further action required for early detection.
