El Niño could push 50m people into acute hunger before end of next year

The UN warns that the rapidly developing El Niño weather system could push approximately 50 million additional people into acute hunger before the end of next year. According to WFP, global acute food insecurity is projected to rise to 274 million people across 45 countries. This crisis compounds existing dangers caused by prolonged droughts in parts of Africa and escalating food prices resulting from the war in Iran, further threatening millions already facing severe food insecurity.
