As families visit beaches during summer holidays, lifeguards are issuing safety warnings regarding digging holes in the sand. While building sandcastles is a common activity for children, excavations exceeding knee-height can lead to serious trouble. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards in south-east Devon highlighted on Instagram that such activities, which seem like harmless fun, can become deadly. Beyond being trip hazards for other beachgoers, these large sand holes present significant hidden dangers.
