‘Leicester Square, please guv’: Self-driving taxis cleared for London streets ‘later this summer’

Uber and Wayve have secured the first minicab licences from TfL to operate self-driving taxis in London. These autonomous services will begin offering rides to paying customers later this summer, although vehicles will initially include a human safety driver. Approximately 100,000 people have already registered to trial the technology before the full public launch. This milestone marks the first time such licences have been granted for autonomous cabs within the city's transport network.
