Masts to be removed from bomb-laden shipwreck

Engineers are commencing a £9.5m operation to remove masts from a Second World War shipwreck containing 1,400 tonnes of explosives. Experts state that reducing the height of these masts to below sea level will alleviate pressure on the wreck's overall structure. This critical intervention aims to stabilise the bomb-laden vessel by mitigating the physical stress caused by the protruding masts, ensuring the integrity of the site while managing the significant amount of hazardous material.
