Southern Water fined £7m over coast sewage dumping

Southern Water was fined over £7 million at Canterbury Crown Court after pleading guilty to 13 offences. The company illegally dumped sewage from wastewater pumping stations at Margate and Broadstairs between 2019 and 2021. These discharges resulted in the closure of bathing waters and caused significant harm to the local economy in Kent.
