Streeting And Mahmood Forced To Apologise After Early Release Joke Caught On Camera

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood have been forced to apologise after being recorded joking about the early release of prisoners. The comments were captured by a microphone in the Downing Street garden following Andy Burnham’s first cabinet meeting. Streeting referred to Justice Secretary Alex Norris as the enemy, suggesting he wanted to release prisoners. Mahmood, who previously approved the early release of thousands of prisoners as Justice Secretary, laughed and denied the claim.
