University of Greater Manchester ends contract of embattled vice-chancellor

The University of Greater Manchester governing body has terminated the contract of vice-chancellor Sir George Holmes, concluding a period of leadership uncertainty. Sir George Holmes, who led the institution for twenty years, was suspended in 2025 due to allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. Following these claims, which were raised in Parliament, the university appointed PwC to conduct an independent inquiry. This decision officially ends his tenure following the probe into these serious allegations.
